This semester I was excited to get back into the studio and improve my skills. This body of work is a collection of functional pieces, each with their own unique surface design. When thinking about my art show I wanted to create something that was functional for everyday use and that I could use as gifts to give back to my family and friends for everything they do for me. To create these pieces I would either throw or handbuild the piece then I would follow up with trimming and smoothing the surface. Once I was pleased with the form I would paint multiple coats of stroke in coats of the color I desired, I then carved through the surface to create the surface design. Then once fired the stroke and coat left a shiny glazed look, creating a resist so all I had to do was dip in a white glaze then fire it one last time. Overall I am very happy with how my art show turned out this year, and I hope to continue to expand my ceramic skills through studio workshop classes in years to come.
